Expert's areas of most recent research include a new method for the emerging de-inking technology of recycled fibers (Patent 5,238,538 titled "Method for De-inking Recycled Fiber by Applying Direct Current Electric Field,") gas-liquid mass transfer and pressure drop in pulp beds with flexible fibers as solid supports, oxygen delignifying pulp, and oxygen bleaching. He has been involved in paper web formation of synthetic fibers (Nomex, Kevlar), web handling for calendering and converting, paper quality, and quality control. He has worked on pulping in the area of wood pulp production, improved digester cooking, process modification, and fiberizing. He has also studied flocculation in the particles and fiber of paper making systems and has investigated the treatment of spent chlorination and caustic extraction liquors with activated carbon adsorption for the National Council of the Paper Industry for Air and Stream Improvement, Inc. In the chemical recovery area, he focused on the black liquor evaporation and its scaling reduction. Recent work also includes the minimization of plant effluent discharge, particularly the zero effluent, bleached chemi-thermo-mechanical pulping (BCTMP) and waste liquor treatment process.
