SILICON CARBIDE REFRACTORIES. Expert has extensive experience in the development and evaluation of silicon carbide refractories of several types, including oxide bonded, nitride bonded, and self-bonded. In addition, he has experience with nitride bonded and recrystallized silicon carbides for wear-resistant applications. In addition, he has experience with silicon carbide refractories for incinerators and kiln furniture. He is quite conversant with silicon carbide raw materials, powders, and grains.
ADVANCED CERAMICS AND REFRACTORIES EVALUATION AND DEVELOPMENT; CERAMIC MATERIAL SELECTION. Expert has extensive experience with commercial advanced refractory ceramics, including material evaluation and selection, product development, product testing (both in-house and through field test results). He has worked in-depth in material selection, forming, firing, testing, and evaluation.
REFRACTORY TESTING. Expert has been heavily involved in work in compressive creep of oxide refractories. He is an expert on the stability of oxides in hydrogen atmospheres at elevated temperatures, as well as thermal shock evaluation of refractory kiln furniture.
ASTM AND ISO TESTS. Expert has extensive experience with the standard ASTM refractory tests as a member of the ASTM Committee C-8 on Refractories for over 35 years. In addition, he is a member of the Technical Advisory Group representing the U.S. on ISO Technical Committee 33 on Refractories. He is Convener (Chairman) of a Working Group, developing standard test methods for measuring Modulus of Elasticity of Refractories.
ZIRCONIA (ZIRCONIUM DIOXIDE). Expert is experienced with the development, fabrication, and evaluation of refractory zirconia parts -- including failure evaluation.
CERAMIC KILN FURNITURE. Expert is skilled in the development and evaluation of alumina, mullite, zirconia, and silicon carbide kiln furniture. He also has a strong background in failure evaluation (such as after testing or field use).
