Expert learned the extrusion blow molding process from the ground up in the technical service department. He has installed dozens of machines and developed many products both in the factory and in the field. He acquired the commercial knowledge of the trade when working for a manufacturer's agent. Today he advises clients in all aspects of extrusion blow molding. He holds training seminars. Expert also designs fixtures for existing blow molding machines to minimize plastic scrap and increase pack-out rates. One of these is a neck flash cooling plate that can be fitted on 'blow-and-drop' blow machines to prevent the neck flash from sticking to the bottles on the conveyor belt. He has ovalized many dies to produce difficult bottles; for example, a 1-liter motor oil bottle with the neck on one side where the die was ovalized in six places.
Expert worked for a manufacturer of single-stage injection stretch blow molding machines and has sold and installed various types. He is familiar with both 3-station and 4-station machines from Magic, SIPA, Nissei ASB and Aoki. He starts up new molds on all of these machines. He does cost calculations and advises clients in the conversion process from other materials to polyethylene terephthalate (PET). He also has experience with infant bottles in oriented polypropylene (OPP), where he successfully started up molds.
Expert worked on the development of the integrated two-stage stretch blow molding machine (ITS) at Husky Injection Molding Systems. He studied the reheat oven system extensively and his work resulted in the successful production of the ITS3 oven system. He has extensive knowledge of the properties of PET and its application to the process. He has worked in product development for various bottles on the ITS system and re-designed some of the controls to better suit the process.
Expert has extensive product development experience in both extrusion blow molding and injection stretch blow molding. He has successfully started molds for household products, motor oil containers, and various types of bottles. He gives advice on preform design for processors and a mold maker. He often helps clients to overcome problems with difficult necks.
Expert performs training seminars in extrusion blow molding, stretch blow molding, and injection molding of preforms both in-house and on-line. He has trained operators and engineers in dozens of small and large companies all over the world.
Expert has considerable experience as expert witness. He has testified at trials and arbitration and in a number of depositions. He has worked for both plaintiffs and defendants.
Expert has written 4 books that cover all aspects of injection and stretch blow molding and one book on extrusion blow molding.
Expert has laid out and started up entire plants and new molds for clients in single-stage and two-stage injection stretch blow molding and extrusion blow molding for plastic bottles. He advises clients in productivity improvements and scrap reduction. He works for both established companies and inventors to study the feasibility of new products. He does detailed cost calculations and works with mold makers and equipment suppliers to determine total cost of manufacturing procedures. Expert has assisted in developing numerous blow-molded parts and plastic bottles, both in design and mold start-up.He has solved problems in customer plants relating to stress cracking and other plastic-related issues for PET, HDPE, and PVC plastic bottles. Expert has trained plant floor and office personnel in blow molding process control, machinery set-up, and good manufacturing practices for plastic bottles. He also runs on-line courses over the Internet.
