HEART VALVE PROSTHESIS; CARDIAC VALVE. The bulk of Expert's research has been related to heart valve prosthesis. His work has focused on the natural aortic valve and its design, dynamics, mechanics, stress analysis, histology, tissue regeneration, and function in vivo as well as the fabrication of optimal bioprosthetic heart valves.
CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE; ATHEROSCLEROSIS; MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION. Other areas of expertise include cardiovascular disease, specifically atherosclerosis and myocardial infarction. He has researched the effects of diabetes as well as beta-blockers on atherosclerosis. He has studied the permeability of the artery to low-density lipoprotein, and morphology of endothelial and smooth muscle cells.
CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE; STENOSIS. For the past eight years Expert has been involved in the study of the mechanism of atherosclerotic lesion development in coronary arteries. The lesion produces stenosis in the artery. He has also investigated the effects of balloon angioplasty and cardiac drugs on the development of the lesions. These studies involve experiments dealing with proliferation of smooth muscle cells, transport of cholesterol in blood vessels, and effects of blood pressure and diabetes on the development of the disease.
BLOOD FLOW. He is very familiar with the study of blood flow.
PHYSIOLOGICAL MONITORING. Expert is involved with angiographic and echocardiographic studies of cardiac function.
BIOMECHANICS. He can answer a range of biomedical questions related to biomedical pressure transducers, biocompatible materials, heart-lung machines, and catheters.
FINITE ELEMENT STRESS ANALYSIS. Expert has extensive experience in finite element stress analysis of arterial branch areas.
