PROTEIN STRUCTURE. Protein sequencing has been the principal focus of a section of Expert's laboratory. He has led the development of technologies, protocols, and strategies needed to determine the primary structure of rare, difficult to purify proteins and peptides. High sensitivity operation and long runs are standard procedures f.
PEPTIDE SYNTHESIS. Expert's lab has furnished custom synthetic peptides to many research labs and research and development facilities. He is knowledgeable of the characterization, purification, and refolding necessary for successful preparation of peptides with biological activity. His laboratory offers support to help plan the use of synthetic peptides and to select the sequence for custom syntheses and peptide use.
NUCLEIC ACIDS; RNA; DNA SEQUENCING; DNA SYNTHESIS; GENETIC ENGINEERING. Expert has directed the laboratory that has provided nucleic acid synthesis support for many applications in molecular biology, genetic engineering, biochemistry, and other fields for more than ten years. The facility has synthesized more than 10,000 oligomers and provides DNA sequencing using automated instruments to many researchers and research and development labs. Protocols are available to handle templates from diverse sources, in different vectors, single or double stranded. Mapping based on fluorescent probes to small repeats or unique sequences is performed on an automated DNA analyzer. Template purification is the primary limitation to sequencing and mapping. Maintaining working protocols is a primary focus of Expert's laboratory.
AMINO ACID SEQUENCING. Expert has sequenced proteins of diverse types using several implementations of Edman degradation for scientists around the world. Proteins or peptides purified by many different laboratories using a variety of strategies have been successfully sequenced form the amino terminus or from an internal fragmentation site.
Through outsourcing, I have managed research programs where only part time staff were available in house.
