ID: 731076 California, USA

Request Expert

Expert received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Caltech under the direction of J.R. Pierce and went on to become a pioneer in the application of frequency-domain digital signal processing to the analysis and modification of music and speech. Over the course of eleven years as a Research Scientist at U.C., San Diego, he introduced new techniques for computer-based music creation, speech recognition, and research into sound perception. In his subsequent fourteen years at the Creative Advanced Technology Center, he assumed progressively broader responsibility for the continuation and commercialization of his earlier research. As Director of Audio Research, he led the development of innovative DSP solutions for sound spatialization and speech enhancement for products such as sound cards, portable music players, and headphones. In ensuing roles as Director of Engineering, first for Audience and then for Plantronics, he led development of targeted DSP solutions for voice communication products operating in noisy environments. Expert has lectured and written extensively on these topics over the years and holds six patents.

He has worked with the University of Southern California to improve the effectiveness of virtual reality in training scenarios via targeted manipulations of the audio components. He has worked with Analog Devices to develop new audio processing capabilities for selected DSP chips. He has worked with ITT Defense Communications to investigate the feasibility of improved word-spotting utilizing neural-network techniques. He has worked with Mosaic Systems to investigate the feasibility of improved solid-state gas detection using neural-network techniques. He has worked with Hybrid Arts to provide new audio processing capabilities for a digital audio workstation.
