Expert has over 30 years of gas chromatography experience, including designing, assembling, and testing of GC systems. He is proficient in trace organic analysis using both packed and capillary columns, FID, TCD, ECD, NPD, FPD, and GC/MS systems for detection. His areas of specialty include head-space GC, multi-dimensional GC, high-resolution columns, and GC/MS.

Expert has published over 120 papers and several books in analytical chemistry and related areas. Having taught about 30 PhD and 15 MS students, he has actively taught the ACS Short Courses in gas chromatography (25 years), high performance liquid chromatography (15 years), and gas chromatorgraphy/mass spectrometry (5 years). His focus is in Ultra Trace Analysis of organic compounds, often first by sample prep including SFE, SPE, microwave-assisted extraction of soil, water, urine, blood, food, and bomb residues. Target compounds are usually pesticides, toxic chemicals, PCB's, priority pollutants, biological weapons (nerve gases), and explosives. He is also knowledgeable of preparative liquid chromatography.

Expert's expertise includes the use of SFE to concentrate and rapidly extract organic samples from air, soil, and water samples for later analysis by GC, HPLC, or GC/MS. He has six years of experience in SFE, and directed three Ph.D. theses on the subject.

Expert has over 20 years of hands-on experience in HPLC, working with a large number of commercial systems, including HP, PE, Varian, Shimadao, Hitachi, Isco, Spectra Physics, Beckman, and Waters. He has a special interest in method development, trace analysis, quantitative analysis, and LC/MS.
