Expert is the founder and President of a New York business consulting firm specializing in corporate restructuring, buyouts, feasibility studies, business plan development, and due diligence. Widely recognized as an authority on reorganizing troubled companies, Expert has served as an expert witness in numerous legal and arbitration cases related to the steel industry and other sectors. Notable cases include 1.) representing a U.S. steel producer as an expert witness in an arbitration case, 2.) as an expert witness and advisor to Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel on world steel prices and production costs during its trade case against Japanese and Russian firms, and 3.) retained as an expert witness by a potential buyer of Gulf States Steel during liquidation process.

Expert was appointed Chief Restructuring Officer for J&L Structural during its Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, overseeing a comprehensive restructuring. He also served as a financial analyst and business consultant to the United Steelworkers (USW), focusing on operational improvements, market studies, restructuring efforts, mergers and acquisitions, and labor-management improvement programs for U.S. and Canadian steel companies. His expertise was instrumental in Stelco’s restructuring efforts and contract negotiations in Canada and in analyzing Warren Consolidated Industries' business plan and restructuring strategy in collaboration with the USW.

A prominent steel industry analyst, Expert published and edited a newsletter focused on the steel industry for over 30 years. The newsletter is a widely respected resource among management and financial professionals. He has also presented at high-profile industry events, including a panel on "Union Management Cooperation in the 21st Century" at the annual steel conference sponsored by World Steel Dynamics and American Metal Market.

Expert has held significant roles on the boards of directors for organizations such as Special Metals, where he guided the company through its restructuring and sale, and Pittsburgh Forgings. His expertise extends internationally; he advised the Liberian government in its iron ore negotiations with ArcelorMittal Steel, achieving a $100 million improvement in contract value. He also prepared sale offering memorandums for companies such as Massillon Steel and GalvPro, working closely with unions, management, and government officials to ensure successful transactions.

In addition to his restructuring work, Expert has provided expert advice to stakeholders in complex situations, including the sale of Weirton Steel by Mittal Steel and the liquidation of Gulf States Steel. He has conducted studies on major industry trends, such as a detailed analysis of the global metallurgical coal market for a leading producer. His evaluations of operational challenges, such as those at Lasco Steel in Canada, have resulted in actionable recommendations for improvement supported by management.

Beyond his consulting work, Expert has conducted over 100 joint labor-management seminars at steel plants across North America, strengthening collaboration between stakeholders. He has made influential presentations to organizations including the U.S. International Trade Commission, the Canadian Steel and Employment Congress, and the United Auto Workers.

Expert holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Earlham College and a Master of Arts degree in sociology from the University of Michigan. He has also taught economics and social science at Brooklyn College. A founder, director, and former chairman of the New York Industrial Retention Network (NYIRN), Expert continues to contribute to the advancement of the steel industry and labor-management relations.
