Expert Details
Wound Healing, Combat Casualty Care, Hemostasis, Collagen, Pressure Ulcers, and Keloids
ID: 107800
Virginia, USA
Having over 40 years of experience in the area of tissue injury, inflammation, and repair, Expert has worked with injuries to tissues and organs throughout the body. He can answer detailed questions on connective tissue, granulation tissue, scar tissue, and fetal tissue as well as medical adhesion processes.
Expert's lab has designed and carried out a variety of human, animal, and cell culture studies to analyze the effect of growth factors on wound healing, epithelization, contraction, inflammation, and collagen metabolism. He is knowledgeable of endothelial cells as well as epithelial cells.
Expert has studied how keloid fibroblasts exhibit an altered response to TGF-beta.
The Laboratory of Tissue Repair has also been involved with a variety of industrial pharmaceutical companies in studies focused on the biology and biochemistry of chronic ulcer formation such as diabetic, pressure, and venous stasis ulcers. These studies have found an increased level of interleukin-beta and collagenase (MMP-1) in non-healing ulcers; once these wounds are treated with specialized hydroactive dressings, the levels are reduced and the ulcers begin to heal. The laboratory has also reported recently that proteases such as elastase are present in these chronic ulcers and these enzymes are capable of degrading topically applied agents such as PDGF and TGF-beta.
Reviewed hospital records and patient depositions to prepare an Expert Witness statement used to settle out of court legal cases.Assisted in the preparation of NIH and Department of Defense research proposals.Consulted for Wound Care Products for TraumaCure and Oxygen BiotherapeuticsReviewed a wide variety of research and development projects for industry and provided expert advice and guidance.
