Power Electronics, Power Supplies
ID: 716404
Virginia, USA
Expert is proficient in magnetic material loss characterization and design considerations when applied to high-frequency inductor and transformer design for power conversion equipment.
Expert's expertise includes power converter topologies and design consideration for high-frequency, high-density, and high-performance operation. This technology has been widely applied to the computer and telecommunication industries.
Distributed power supplies systems have gained wide acceptance in recent years as opposed to the traditional centralized system. Expert is familiar with design considerations such as modularity, parallelability, maintenance, and hot plug (on-line replacement). He is also experienced in system stability and compatibility that are essential to successful implementations.
Expert is familiar with power factor correction circuits for single-phase and three-phase inputs. Power factor correction will be mandated for all future electronics equipment. The technical issues he works with involve cirucit topologies, control techniques, and soft-switching techniques to improve EMI and to reduce filter size and weight be means of high frequency operation.
Expert has extensive experience in a variety of space programs, most recently with EOS and Space Station Freedom programs. He has developed technologies for solar array switching units, battery chargers, and discharger systems. He also has developed a power systems simulator for a high-voltage distributed power system for space applications.
Expert has extended experience with nonlinear modeling of power converter circuits and control techniques, including current-mode control, average current mode control, and charge control. He has successfully developed small signal models for these control schemes, to facilitate design optimization.
