Power Electronics, Controls and System Design
ID: 719260
Wisconsin, USA
Expert has designed power conversion systems up to 200 KVA with expandability into the MVAs for a solar array, variable speed hydro, and battery energy storage used by a utility for load leveling.
Expert is presently designing power converters using resonant mode switching of IGBTs. The highlight of this approach involves zero voltage switching of IGBTs with discrete pulse modulation techniques.
Through his experience as a designer of power conversion equipment, Expert has specified and applied a variety of power electronic devices and control circuits. He is knowledgeable of power electronic circuits involving significant analog signal processing and digital switching circuits. Expert has developed digital circuits and software to replace what was typically done with analog circuits.
Expert can design unique driver and protection circuits for power electronic devices as well as design custom power supplies or converters to meet unique applications. He also designs the unique control circuits and algorithms needed to command the power electronics for the required applications.
Expert has a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering and a second Masters in Controls. He has experience in circuit design and analysis as well as practical work in manufacturing design, diagnostics and testing. He has been responsible for project planning, selection of vendors, and new product development.
Expert writes software models of power electronic circuits that include switching devices and passive elements. The models are used for either predicting system behavior or for determining stresses on components in a product design.
Expert has designed motor drives through 300 HP using bipolar transistors, IGBTs, microprocessors, analog and digital control circuitry. He has started-up these units at customers facilities and designed the production processes.
Understanding how switching power supplies generate significant electrical interference, Expert has designed circuits in power converter products and systems that have the required noise immunity.
