Expert has run a Mohs surgery fellowship program since 1993 and a procedural dermatology fellowship since 2003. He is an editor of the textbook "Surgery of the skin: Procedural Dermatology" and has published papers in the area. He is on the editorial board of the journal of Dermatologic Surgery and the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology. A member of the board of directors of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American College of Mohs Surgery. He has represented organized dermatology at the AMA Resource Based Relative Value Update Committee (RUC) since 2003 and has been active in the RUC as PEAC representative prior to this.
He founded and ran an institution’s first Mohs and Dermatologic Surgery unit at a major teaching hospital in Texas. He has also hosted and been Program Director for a regional weekly radio show for two years. He has been featured on several TV shows and videos regarding his expertise on dermatology issues. He has been invited to participate in several leadership forums hosted by the American Academy of Dermatology Association. He currently hold an academic appointment as a Director of the Procedural Dermatology Fellowship at his university and is a practitioner at his own private dermatologic surgery firm. He is also an attending physician at four major teaching hospitals in New York.
As a member of the Board of Directors as well as his experience as Chairman and/or Director of various Dermatologic committees and clinics, Expert has extensive experience in various aspects of dermatology including the industry/production business aspect and the medical aspect. He has helped with the clinical practice management planning process for several dermatology departments and is familiar with external communication methods to promote dermatologic surgery. He is familiar and experienced with computer and informatics, coding and reimbursement as well as health care finance in terms of practical medicine.
As a practicing physician and dermatologist, he has assessed, analyzed and diagnosed several dermatologic conditions. He has also provided medical consulting services to patients with various dermatologic conditions at several hospitals in NY, VT and TX.
He is also involved in the academic aspect of dermatology, serving as clinical professor and associate professor of Dermatology at various medical schools and teaching hospitals. He has also been involved in the educational technology committee of several dermatology associations promoting new and advanced scientific technology for the advancement of dermatologic studies and treatment.
