Expert is a senior surgeon with a specialist practice in the area of biliary disease and gallstones. He has performed laparoscopic cholocystectomy since 1990, and was a recognised trainer for this type of surgery.
He had an extended research programme in the symptoms and investigation of gallstones and biliary disease which was recognised by the award of an Arris and Gale Lectureship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2001.
He has provided expert evidence in numerous legal cases involving injury to the bile duct, and other complications of laparoscopic surgery.
Expert was a consultant Surgeon from1988 to 2014; he has always had a special interest in gastrointestinal surgery, especially surgery for hernias, and gallstones. He has published several papers on hernia and hepato-biliary surgery. He has performed laparoscopic surgery since its introduction in 1990, and was a recognised trainer in that field.
Expert has been an Editor of the British Journal of Surgery and was Editor in Chief of the Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons 2009-2014. He edited an annual publication called Recent Advances in Surgery.
He has provided expert evidence in many personal injury cases involving hernia, abdominal injury, and injuries of the liver, pancreas or spleen, as well as negligence cases involving laparoscopic surgery and cholecystectomy for gallstones.
He has provided scientific reports and expert advice to several pharmaceutical companies. Types of products evaluated include agents affecting the inflammatory response in acute pancreatitis, and agents affecting gallbladder function.He is registered with several international agencies to provide consultation or survey advice relating to treatments of pancreatic and biliary disese and for the evaluation of products used in hernia repair.He is currently working with two companies to advise on the development of PRO measures of symptom burden and quality of life in recurrent pancreatitis and chronic pancreatitis
