Force Analysis & Dynamics, Accident Reconstruction
ID: 727729
Virginia, USA
The courses that Expert taught included but were not limited to the following topics: centroids (centers of gravity), coefficients of friction, fluid pressures, moments of inertia, force analysis, torques, momentum and energy, fluid pressures, intensity of light, vector calculus, differential equations, and dynamics. He continues to do research and author papers in science and engineering and is a co-author of a collegiate textbook in addition to numerous journal articles. Expert has authored or co-authored scientific and technical papers which have been presented at various technical societies throughout the world. Many of his papers have been peer reviewed before they were published. SAE Paper #911944 (Stability and Maneuverability Problems of ATVs) was peer reviewed by the Society (SAE) which is the largest international technical society in the world and was judged to be among the most outstanding papers published by SAE in 1991. Thus, it was selected to be included in The 1991 Transactions of SAE. All papers included in the SAE Transactions are judged to be worthy of preserving in the permanent technical literature, based on their long-term reference value.
Expert's area of expertise is Force Analysis and Dynamics which includes the areas of product and vehicle design, safe practices, stability and safety of vehicles, and accident reconstruction. An individual who has the expertise in Force Analysis and Dynamics has the ability to analyze various objects and to determine what will happen to those objects if forces are applied and what motions (if any) will occur as a result of those forces. In addition, he has worked in solar research, internal engine design, wind energy, and clean energy production.
Expert has investigated and analyzed approximately a thousand different assignments involving various accident scenarios which have included both off-road and on-road vehicles in addition to work place and industrial accidents and accidents caused by defective products. For most of these assignments, Expert has been asked to determine what caused and/or contributed to the accident and/or the injuries. He has been retained as a technical expert to analyze accidents in litigated matters by both plaintiffs and defendants (which have included corporations, manufacturers, and insurance companies). Manufacturers, such as SunnyBrook RV, Inc. and Eaz-Lift, have retained him to analyze, test, and testify about their products as to whether their trailer (SunnyBrook) and/or the hitch/stabilizer system (Eaz-Lift) caused and/or contributed to any trailer sway. In addition, he has been retained by among others, Shepard's Mayflower, Inc., Givaudan Fragrances Corp., Hone Trucking, R & L Carriers, Arrow Trucking Company, and Dart Transportation Co. to investigate and analyze various accidents involving their interstate trucks and trailers.
Expert has testified before the U.S. Senate Committee on Governmental Affairs as a technical expert on dynamics and safety. He has been asked on numerous occasions by the United States Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) to participate in hearings and meetings. On one occasion, he was given an honorarium from the United States Consumer Products Safety Commission to spend a day with the CPSC staff to discuss his observations, calculations, testing, and opinions as it pertains to stability and safety.
The American Bar Association selected Expert to be one of the faculty members at their National Institute on Motor Vehicle Litigation which was held in Phoenix, Arizona. The scientists and engineers who organized The Third Biennial European Joint Conference on Engineering Systems Design and Analysis which was held in Montpellier, France, selected him to be one of their featured speakers and give the presentation, "Accident Reconstruction and Reconstructive Analysis". The Third Biennial European Joint Conference on Engineering Systems Design and Analysis had many international co-sponsors which included among others the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, The National Scientific Research Centre (France), Chamber of Mechanical Engineers (Turkey), National Council of Engineers and Scientists of France, Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers, and the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society (China).
Expert has appeared on several occasions as a technical expert on national television both in the U.S.A. and Canada. Expert has testified as an expert in Federal and State Courts throughout the United States. He has been qualified and testified in the court room each and every time that he has been tendered to the court. Every time that opposing counsel has challenged his expertise as not satisfying the legal requirements set forth in Daubert, Kumho, and Frye, the courts have ruled that he was qualified to testify as mentioned above. Many such opinions have been rendered by various Federal District Courts and the Supreme Court of New York on Long Island. He has testified in dozens of litigated matters involving off-road accidents where the verdicts or settlements were in excess of a million dollars. There have been several in excess of 5 million dollars with the largest being a 35 million dollars verdict in Elba, Alabama (Barron vs. Yamaha, et al.).
Part of Expert's professional time has been spent as an Assisting Scientist for Grail Engine Technologies, Inc. of Kansas, and as Vice President for Protium Energy of Florida. Expert assisted the design team at Grail Engine Technologies as a scientist in the design and production of low emissions, high efficiency, high power to weight ratio internal combustion engines. He was also one of the founders and a research scientist with Protium Energy, LLC., a company devoted and specializing in the production of low emissions, high efficiency, production of usable, safe, and clean energy.
Expert currently resides in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he continues to consult with various clients throughout the United States.
