Expert was the director of Ooty Botanic gardens and Rajbhavan gardens for over 15 yrs . He was well known for his botanical and gardening expertise during the period. He was expert in raising seedlings of thousands of varieties of plants, raising maintenance, training plant protection, fertilization until seed ( seed to seed ). He designed and laid out many ornamental botanical gardens, nurseries and arboretums during his stint in the botanical gardens. He is very knowledgeable in identification of plants from tropical to temperate conditions.He was responsible for successful conduct of annual flower shows in the botanical gardens. With his vast knowledge of plants and designing, he helped the local residents in improving their garden. His special skill and expertise areas were sourcing of seeds, seed treatment, sowing,planting, soil treatment, plant protection, fertilization, maintenance, training and pruning and maintenance of botanical garden as a whole with special emphasise to important garden components.
Expert, after his stint in Botanical gardens, worked in East Africa for an American consulting firm for introduction and development of various medicinal plants like artemisia, stevia, borage, tea tree, Angelica, Hypoxis, vitex agnus-castus, pelargonium sidoides, Milk thistle, Elder berry, centella, aloe, Echinacea angustifolia, E.purpurea, rosemary, thyme, Lemon Balm, Arnica montana, Prunus africanus, Vocango africana, Griffonia, Warburgia, Rauwolfia vomitoria, Fever few,Hypericum etc. He successfully established extensive medicinal plant cultivation in India ( feverfew, artemisia, rosemary, thyme, sage etc) China (artemisia) and Vietnam ( artemisia and stevia), besides east Africa. Now, he has been working on the sourcing and growing of medicinal plants with anti malarial and anti cancer properties ( cathranthus, Mappia foetida, Podophyllum, Taxus etc.). He has a vast experience and knowledge in identification, growing, post harvest of most of the medicinal plants in commercial use, besides having adequate experience in processing.
