Request Expert
Expert has more than 15 years experience in satellite remote sensing of the cryosphere. Expert received a PhD in geography from the University of Colorado Boulder, in 1996, for her work in understanding Greenland climate variability. Subsequently she has been a research scientist at the University of Colorado, at the Employer (NSIDC) within the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES). Her Arctic research interests are wide-ranging, and include atmosphere-sea ice interactions, synoptic climatology, boundary layer problems, numerical weather prediction, climate change and impacts on native communities. She has conducted field work in Greenland, the Alaskan Arctic, and in the lower 48's. Efforts over the past fifteen years have increasingly focused on trying to make sense of the rapid environmental changes being observed in the Arctic and what these changes will mean for the rest of the planet. Expert’s work has been featured in numerous magazines and news reports, radio talk shows, and TV documentaries. She has given keynote addresses around the world on Arctic climate issues, briefed former Vice President Al Gore, briefed oil companies and the military on Arctic changes, and participated in climate panels with world renowned scientists. Expert has published more than 50 articles on peer-reviewed journals (20 as first-author) and contributed to several national and international reports on climate change. Expert’s 2007 paper “Arctic Sea Ice Decline: Faster than Forecast” has been cited more then 300 times.
