Expert has created multiple technologies for a variety of agricultural municipal and rural effluents, originating from both point and diffuse pollution sources. These processes are highly effective and have been prominent in the last few years.
Expert has expanded her water quality and management expertise and networking skills from academia to industrial, private and public sectors and become involved in water policy issues nationally and internationally. She conducted an extensive wastewater market search and developed information and knowledge database of variety of products and conservation management practices related to water quality in agriculture, residential, municipal and industrial wastewater segments. In addition, she conducted comprehensive analytical studies on technical and policy issues related to point and non-point source pollution sources and the re-use of wastewater and water/energy/food nexus.
Complex water pollution and policy problems analysis (e.g. eutrophication, the
lack of current phosphorus removal regulations and the lack of investment for novel conservation practices implementations) and their implications to other disciplines and sectors.Synthesized current knowledge of water availability, water and energy dynamics/, water use, water consumption related to energy generation, and impacts of energy production on water quality.Design, implementation and adoption of on-site filtration systems for agricultural, municipal, residential, and industrial waste water effluents and runoff treatment.Innovative water treatment technology products validation, approvals, marketing and commercialization; National (US) and International governments, public and private sectors liaison; Market research, networking, communications, strategic planning on issues of innovative environmental technologies for water pollution control and small business development.Screening of novel materials for phsosphorus removal from wastewater; development of novel phosphorus rich soil amendments for use instead of chemical fertilizers.

Designed and implemented several innovative approaches to agricultural effluents treatment to improve water quality and livelihoods of rural communities. Conducted engineering, research and design of sustainable technologies for water pollution control from both point and non-point pollution sources. Worked on 1) field applications of these technologies to treat agricultural, domestic and municipal wastewaters and stormwater run-off; 2) validation and acceptance of these innovative technologies as water management practices on a global scale; 3) Water footprint related to energy and food production and 4) adaptation of current agricultural best management practices and stormwater runoff treatment systems to climate change.Developed two different technologies for phosphorus removal from wastewaters, currently patent pending. Generated 40 publications (including a book, two book chapters, 20 peer-reviewed manuscripts, 7 papers in national and international conference proceedings, and 9 peer-reviewed abstracts); gave over 40 presentations at various regional, national and international conferences; served as a peer reviewer for 6 different journals and am an editorial board member for Water, an open access journal on water science and technology, and the Natural and Environmental Sciences Journals. Collaborating on an international project which investigated the use of Triggered phosphorus recovery using reactive filter materials ' tapping into the potential of wastewater as a key resource, with Gunno Renman, professor at KTH - Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm. Supervised highly qualified personnel including senior laboratory and filed technician and dozens of undergraduate, Masters and PhD graduate students across four continents. |
