Water Purification by Ion Exchange
ID: 730700
California, USA
Expert has been active in all areas of media filtration including activated carbon, manganese greensand, multi-media, activated alumina for fluoride and arsenic, iron based arsenic adsorption, uranium and heavy metals removal, de-ionization, closed loop rinse recycle systems, perchlorate removal, nityrate and alkalinity reduction. Expert also has unique system designs for low and zero discharge portable exchange softener regeneration and has extensive experience with ion exchange packed bed design and operation. He has also done studies, designed and built equipment for non-salt regenerated scale control systems and unique high efficiency particulate filtration.
Designed a water recycling deionization system for a circuit board shop enabling them to use metal laden rinse water as their high purity make-up DI stream which reduced their water usage by over 95% and reduced the footprint of their waste treatment to 1/5th its original size. Designed and oversaw construction a four-train PEDI regeneration plant system capable of handling over 1200 cu ft of resin per shift. System also utilized chemical and water reclaim which reduced the burden on their waste treatment system by over 50%. System is capable of producing an 18+ megohm float for high purity and medical exchange tanks. Acting as an expert in ion exchange, produced a successful case to defend client in a deionizing mishap that resulted in a claim from surface damage on new cars using DI water washing. Strategy included forensic advice to prove the case. A small portable exchange softener plant was having issues with excessive water discharge and poor regeneration quality. Made recommendations for water and salt reclaim that reduced water use by 50% and improved quality and capacity of regenerated product by 50%. Was able to improve a plating shop's deionization capacity by a clever redesign of the internal distributors and careful choice in new ion exchange resins. Capacity boost was over 40% with the same tankage and a larger circulation pump.
