Ms. Expert later transitioned into Information Technology and began work in the areas of usability requirements, and usability testing & evaluation for the design of software applications and electronic display screens for workstations, computer displays, and websites. Additionally, Ms. Expert has developed working knowledge of ADA Section 508 requirements and guidelines for universal access to websites. She has also developed working familiarity with Assistive Technologies that assist disabled populations at work and home. She has applied her expertise in usability to the design and layout of website pages, including development of content, design of navigation features, usage of color, format standardization, etc.
Ms. Expert's background over the years also includes work as a project lead and principal investigator in applied research in the design of lab and field studies to test and evaluate hardware and software product design. Her work in conducting studies has included experimental design, recruitment of subjects, development of data collection instruments, collection and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, and publishing the results of her research in technical reports for internal and external clients. She has extensive knowledge of the product development life cycle, from supporting requirements analysis, prototype development, design, test & evaluation (alpha, beta, usability), and customer support after product rollout. As a project lead and principal investigator, Ms. Expert has also been responsible for management of contract scope, schedule & budget, and project staff.
Her career in human factors has also included analysis and evaluation of safety requirements for hardware and workstations, as well as ergonomic design requirements for office and factory floor settings. Ms. Expert has also developed extensive expertise in developing warnings, cautions and advisory labels for equipment, the electronic display of such indices, development of warning and caution signage for premises, and authoring of user instruction manuals, maintenance manuals, and assembly instructions. Her work here has included providing consulting services for product labeling and safety requirements to a European office furniture manufacturer.
After training under Hal Hendrick, PhD, a renowned Expert Witness in the field of Human Factors and Ergonomics, Ms. Expert began providing consulting services a few years ago to various law firms as a Human Factors and Usability Expert Witness in product and premises liability cases on behalf of the Plaintiff. Cases she has worked on include railroad premises accidents, industrial accidents, personal injury accidents on public and private premises, medical device accidents, and accidents involving operator fatigue. On a case-by-case basis, Ms. Expert will also consider work on behalf of the Defendant, after reviewing details of the case with Defendant's attorney.
Ms. Expert is a member of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, the American Psychological Association, Society of Automotive Engineers, and the User Experience Professionals Association. She holds degrees in Psychology and Sociology, and has taken recent doctoral coursework in Media Psychology.
