Expert Details
Urethane Coated Fabrics, Barrier Coatings and Cast Urethane
ID: 731942
Pennsylvania, USA
The expert has extensive experience with high moisture vapor barrier coatings for corrosion protection. He managed a lab where he formulated a two part coating from a polymer originally designed for encapsulation which had extremely high moisture vapor barrier.
Expert has successfully formulated heat cured and UV cured damping adhesives for use in stand off damping systems.
Expert has broad experience formulating cast urethane elastomers. He has a fundamental knowledge of polyurethanes from intermediates such as PTMEG, 11 ester poyols, diamines, diol and triol curatives. He also has cast urethane processing expertise from hand mixing and pouring to meter mix and dispensing. His knowledge of polyurethane and urea structure/property relationships is both extensive and practical. He knows how to structure a urethane polymer depending on which properties, such as hydrolysis, hysteresis, resilience, abrasion and chemical resistance, are of greatest importance.
The expert has solvent based urethane synthesis experience. This includes synthesizing production scale batches of solvent based urethanes using the prepolymer method.
The expert has successfully developed urethane composite materials which now used commercially. These consist of multiple layers of fabric coated with cast urethane then cured into a very high strength composite material. The urethane coating allows the multiple layers of fabric to load share thus resulting in a very high strength composite material.
