Expert Details
Trace Detection, Ion Mobility Spectrometry (IMS), Forensic Analysis of Narcotics, Explosives, etc.
ID: 724071
Massachusetts, USA
Expert has 25 years of hands-on experience with a wide variety of analytical instrumentation. He has both a practical and specialized background analyzing a wide variety of products. Has solved problems with basic chemistry issues relating to instrumental analysis. He has performed basic to advanced trouble-shooting of various instrumentation. His most recent 10 years has been as part of teams designing and building instrumentation, primarily detectors for explosives, narcotics and chemical agents, based on ion mobility spectrometry. Most recently as the director of a group working to build a successful detector, for the previously mentioned contraband based on microcantilever technology.
Expert has 15 years of experience as a forensic chemist for a state police agency. His analytical testing abilities have with stood trial by fire in many cases involving analysis of narcotics and other substances important to criminal investigations and subsequent prosecutions. He has also been intimately involved in training subordinates in various analytical techniques.
Expert has over 30 years of experience in his degreed field. He has six years of experience working in clinical chemistry before obtaining his BS in Chemistry. He has worked in various fields of chemistry all involving analytical methods.
Expert was promoted to a senior position within one year of starting with the state police and subsequently was a supervisor in the narcotics identification laboratory. He brought the practice of micro-analysis into the lab, he is a primary principle in the development of instrumentation applications within the crime-lab. Has testified in over 100 trials as an expert in the analysis of substances of forensic interest.
As a forensic chemist the expert was required to defend his analysis in court. Identification of substances had to be beyond question. Expert has 15 years of hands-on experience with GC/MS as a basic work tool.
Since 1998, Expert has worked exclusively in all aspects of new analytical instrument development exclusively for the detection of trace quantities of explosives, narcotics and chemical agents for law enforcement and homeland security. He worked successfully with a wide variety of other professionals as a team member. He liaisoned between the customer/user and the members of the development team. The ion mobility spectrometer is currently the chosen method for trace detection of contraband by homeland security. He is currently the director of a sensor group developing a new detection technology based on microcantilevers. He is responsible for all aspects of the development and research for this development task. It is considered a disruptive technology.
Expert is very familiar with qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis. As a forensic chemist it was well understood that all analysis had the potential to be defended in court.
He was involved with the initial prototyping of a new sensor based on microcantilevers. He was subsequently hired full time as a director for this program. He aided in the application of several gov grants by writing key sections describing the theory and description of proposed work.Has worked for several lawyers involved with criminal prosecution and defense cases, civil complaint cases involved with compliance and environmental issues. He is presently consulting as an explosive expert for a former employer. Also prepares samples and interprets data for the same employer.
