Expert has applied his understanding of adsorption theory and phenomenon for contaminant fate and transport, for environmental cleanup and technologies development. He is also familiar with the interactions of surfactant and solid media, and adsorption of organic contaminants and other non-reactive media such as activated carbon or reactive media, such as zero-valent iron or complex organic materials like compost. His prior research also included adsorption behavior of surface and ground water tracers for environmental application.

Expert has been involved in using chemical flooding for soil and ground water remediation in the last fifteen years. He has conducted pioneering research in designing and successfully implementing this technology for more than two dozens full-scale site remediation tasks. He also holds several US patents related to use of chemical flooding for site remediation. His recent chemical flooding interests also includes applying for improved oil recovery.

Expert's research interests include studying the colloid particles, formation, and their dispersion. He was involved in developing iron/iron oxide particles (sub-micron size), surfactant precipitates and behaviors, and recently dispersion of nano-scale iron particles. He also uses this knowledge to resolve well plugging issues as a result of soil clay mineral dispersion by the change of water chemistry and surfactant injection. He has one US pending patent on dispersion of nano-iron particles for environmental cleanup application.

Expert's understanding of colloid and interface chemistry play a crucial role on his responsibilities of acting as a senior engineer to design environmental remediation system for soil and ground water remediation. He had developed several patented technologies by successfully modify the surfactant system to achieve the desired performances for remediation both technically and economically. His interest also include microemulsions (thermodynamically stable), their behaviors and formulations. His background also helps his clients to resolve some colloidal dispersion issues and surface modification for innovative applications, such as materials science, ceramic materials and environmental remediation.

Expert has investigated use of a series of soap for various applications in last two decades. Although he has worked on mainly anionic soaps, his research also includes use of mixed anionic/non-ionic, anionic/cationic/non-ionic soaps. His study involved most food-grade (direct or in-direct) soaps in particular for environmental remediation, while he is also familiar with soaps for consumer products applications and petroleum use, such as improved oil recovery. In recent years, he had developed several unique surfactant system approaching CMC level to significantly reduce the project cost by chemical saving.

Expert has studied the interactions between the surfactant and cosurfactant, the role of cosurfactants in formulation of microemulsions. His research interest is focusing on improving the performance of key surfactant by reducing the dosage of surfactant, minimizing the recovered water treatment while in the presence of cosurfactant. His research focused on those biodegradable, low toxic cosurfactants for environmental application.

Expert has more than fifteen years experiences related to environmental cleanup and cleanup technologies. Before going back to academia in '08, he was in charge of developing the core remedial technologies for soil and ground water contamination at a private sector. He holds several US patents related to surfactant flush which have been successfully used in removal of non-aqueous phase liquid and dissolved phase organic pollutants. He also involved in designing remedial processes for inorganic pollutants such as chromate and nitrate. His research interests included both abiotic and biotic processes for site remediation.

Expert has been involved in engineering design for environmental cleanup efforts for more than fifteen years. His background are closely related to in situ remedial system, above ground water treatment system, and physical-chemical processes for water and wastewater treatment.

Expert has very strong background on liquid and solid wastes treatment. His research interest is mainly on applying physical-chemical processes to solve the challenging questions for handling hazardous wastes. He has conducted research directly or indirectly related to most organic pollutants and some limited experiences on inorganic contaminants, but not radionuclides or biological wastes.

Conducted two dozens full-scale field projects using surfactant flushing technique at industrial sites (Wyoming, MI, Golden, OK, Taiwan, Japan) and DOD sites (Hill AFB, NAVY Alameda Point, McClellan AFB, Dover AFB, Tinker AFB). Developed an innovative permeable reactive barrier system for treating inorganic contaminants such as nitrate and Cr(VI) for a U.S. EPA funded project. Designed a unique methodology to characterize the performance of redox reactions in the PRBs. Developed low concentration chemical oxidation system for remediation of dissolved phase contaminants.
