FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS; DEFORMATION ANALYSIS; ANSYS SOFTWARE. A major portion of Expert's career has involved applying finite element techniques to engineering systems analysis and design. He developed a finite element model using ANSYS to study the inelastic deformation process of a solar dish collector surface under fluid pressure. He evaluated the crash-worthiness of several Kansas DOT roadside barrier designs under vehicle impact using computer simulation. He also identified the path of the progressive failure of a surge tank using finite element modeling for a paper-making factory.
STRUCTURAL DYNAMICS; VIBRATION TESTING, MECHANICAL VIBRATION; ANALYSIS & MODELING. Expert is an expert in structural dynamics and mechanical vibration. He has extensive experience in automated data acquisition systems using microprocessor-based data loggers. His doctoral research quantified the dynamic loading on stadium structures due to spectator movements. The results are still widely used by stadium designers. He monitored the wind-induced forces on a transmission line for the Omaha Public Power District. He also conducted vibration tests to determine the natural frequencies, mode shapes and damping ratios of stretched membrane heliostats for the Solar Energy Research Institute.
STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS; STATICS. Expert has expertise in the fields of static and dynamic structural analysis. He has extensive experience in the areas of structural design, utilizing materials such as steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and timber. In the field of dynamic analysis, he has worked with earthquake, wind, and other mechanical vibration problems.
MECHANICAL BEHAVIOR MODELING. Expert has extensive experience in applying ADINA, SAP90, DYNA/NIKE, and ANSYS in engineering modeling and problem-solving.
