The employees of Expert's company have worked in many areas of applied acoustics for over 40 years. This has included the areas of audio, ultrasonics, structural acoustics, noise control and the design of quiet products, outdoor sound propagation, and machinery noise. Expert's has applied his expertise to transducer design, sound/structure interaction, the noise generated by mechanisms, the use and design of acoustical materials, and the prediction of noise around factories, highways, and airports.

The corporation can help with the excitation of vibration in structures by machinery mechanisms, by random forces such as turbulent flow and random impacts, and by sound waves. The direct response of the structure to excitation and the transmission of vibration from one structure to another have been involved in this work. Expert has found that the responses of realistic structures such as buildings, machine housings, and microelectronics systems are very scale-able. This has allowed him to transfer knowledge gained in one area to applications in other areas.

The employees have experience with acoustical instrumentation. This has included sensors for measuring pressure, vibrational quantities such as displacement, velocity, and acceleration, acoustical quantities associated with anechoic and reverberant standardized rooms, and associated quantities like acoustical intensity and particle velocity. He has also worked with instruments for the processing of data from these sensors. Such instruments include sound level meters, vibration meters, spectrum analyzers, and PCs with data acquisition and signal processing boards.

Expert uses vibration as a major source of diagnostic information for both rotating and reciprocating machinery. They use signal processing methods of spectral analysis and time and frequency analysis of transient signals for extracting diagnostic information from machine components. These components have included diesel engines, transmissions, electrical motors, and flow control valves. Most of his experience has been directed at reciprocating and transient motion machines for which standard "machinery monitoring" systems are ineffective.

Expert works with companies to determine the "best sound" for their products. This is done by helping to frame questions for the focus groups that companies use to evaluate product features and attributes, coupled with jury (listening panel) studies to determine how the components in the product contribute to the acceptability of product sound. The study is carried out in a way that gives direct engineering guidance for the redesign of the various components in the product.
