Expert Details
Sheet Metal Formability and Metallurgy

ID: 739120
Michigan, USA
Expert has worked with automotive and non-automotive OEMs and their Tier One/Two/Three suppliers, as well as steel and aluminum producers and their service centers. Team members have worked in mainland China, Taiwan, Japan, Brazil, Mexico, and Europe, as well as Canada and the US. Most of the work has been in materials selection/optimization, tooling buyoff, field formability analyses, manufacturing process improvement, and cost savings / avoidance projects. Upon completion of an Expert Witness engagement during a steel alloying Patent Infringement lawsuit, Expert's work was deemed highly significant and pivotal in winning the case. Expert writes the monthly Science of Forming / Metal Matters column in a magazine and has written for Stamping Journal and The Fabricator. He conducts seminars on Sheet Metal Formability for the Precision Metalforming Association. He wrote two chapters in ASM Handbook, Metalworking: Sheet Forming, and wrote one section in ASM Handbook, Analysis and Prevention of Component and Equipment Failures.
Expert serves on the Metals Specifications Committee of SAE International and is Past President of the North American Deep Drawing Research Group. Expert is the Metallurgy and Forming Technical Editor of an Advanced High Strength Steel Application Guideline.

Additional Experience
Expert Witness Experience |
---|
Expert assessed fit-for-use of steel coil and pipe products affected by mill processing, international transportation, or inappropriate application. This forensic metallurgy was used by lawyers to assess the viability of their case, as well as to convince the other party to settle. Expert provided the technical background details that led to an intellectual property licensing agreement between two global metals manufacturers. |
Training / Seminars |
---|
Annual seminars for Precision Metalforming Association: “Stamping Higher Strength Steels” and “Steel, Aluminum and Stainless Steel: How Metal Properties Influence Formability." Lead Metallurgy and Formability training content developer for Auto/Steel Partnership. Conducted approximately 15-20 seminars / webinars for A/SP member companies and suppliers from 2019 to 2022: “Advanced High Strength Steels – Metallurgy” and “Advanced High Strength Steels – Formability,” Conducted 5 multi-day webinars/seminars for multiple international Automotive Suppliers: “Sheet Metal Grade & Formability Webinar Series” and "Hot Stamping" |
