Finally, he has developed a system (based on infrared sensors) that finds the number of vehicle occupants in a vehicle.
He is the Director of the "Center for Distributed Robotics" at the Employer. He is in charge of a consortium that developed the "scout" minirobot. There is a patent on this product and it has been featured on CNN, BBC, NBC and several local news media. The specially designed and constructed scouts are extremely small (roughly 116cc volume), yet are readily deployable (by tossing or launching), have multiple mobility modes, have multiple sensing capabilities, can transmit and receive data and instructions, and have a limited capability for autonomous action.
He has significant experience in real-time imaging. The emphasis of his work in this area is detection and tracking of objects. He has developed imaging algorithms for various Datacube, Imaging Technologies and Matrox Genesis systems. He has also experience in real-time inspection.
Expert has worked on surface reconstruction, stereo systems, structure from motion, selection of features, and depth map creation. He has also advised a startup company in this area.
He has consulted in the areas of neural networks, Bayesian methods, learning, shape representation, OCR, discrete dynamic patterns, and applications of pattern recognition.
He has worked with state and federal agencies in the selection of near-infrared sensor technology. Applications include detection of deer, ice, and vehicles.
Expert has worked extensively in the areas of vision and infrared sensors. He has taught both classes and short industrial tutorials. He has received more than $6 million dollars external funding in this area in order to conduct research. He has also helped in the evaluation and selection of sensors for various federal and state agencies.
Expert helped a major manufacturer of traffic cameras redesign their computer vision algorithms. The gains were in the order of millions. He performed a complete design and implementation of a vision-based inspection system for a major sensor manufacturer. Expert evaluated a company that produces fingerprint recognition systems for a major player in the area. Expert helped a robot manufacturer redesign its line of robots. He conducted extensive seminars for its engineers regarding robot design. He helped several startups by serving at their advisory boards and evaluating new technologies in 3-D modeling, sensors for transportation applications, biometric systems, and new robot designs.
