He has over two decades of experience working to translate corporate vision into viable business strategies. His expertise in this area ranges from preparing an initial situational and environmental analysis of the organization and its competencies and capabilities to developing and documenting specific financial plans for individual operating units. He is well versed in the entire range of corporate planning functions from market assessment to business intelligence and has prepared and presented strategic financial analysis and findings at the executive level of billion-dollar organizations and financial institutions. He brings a full understanding of the management and financial implications inherent to the development of multi-faceted growth strategies and can advise operating units and corporate management on the appropriate course of action. His prior positions have included directing all aspects of strategic planning and development for a six billion-dollar organization with five lines of business and 40,000 employees at locations worldwide.
He has an extensive background in business re-engineering concepts and applications and has directed business process improvement projects incorporating the tenants of Total Quality Management (TQM) and LEAN six sigma productivity improvements. These projects have addressed efforts to streamline flight simulation training operations, marketing and proposal development functions, and naval machinery test and evaluation processes.
Expert has extensive experience in technology development and R&D management and has directed technology projects for RCA, General Electric, Ford Aerospace, LORAL, Lockheed Martin, and the US Navy. These projects have ranged from the development of new space satellite systems to advanced solid-state power electronics, and underwater ocean renewable power systems. Expert has been responsible for specifying the scope of research and development efforts, assembling teams of appropriate subject matter experts, directing day-to-day development activities, and reporting technology development results to senior management. Expert has also led efforts to develop joint ventures and strategic alliances as part of the technology development effort and has helped identify the synergies required to mature and commercialize emerging technologies. He is also well versed in the process of soliciting and managing government-funded R&D efforts such as Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) projects and has proposed and managed numerous projects in this regard.
Expert led the technology development effort for an innovative underwater electric power generating system. He directed an engineering team tasked with the design and deployment of a turbine generating system consisting of underwater turbines, permanent magnet generators, power electronics, submersible structures, and data acquisition components. He was responsible for locating and sourcing vendors and manufacturing capabilities for the required components and subsystems. Advanced Logistics Delivery System (ALDS) - Expert led a team of specialized experts to analyze the requirements for drone aircraft deployment using electromagnetic launch techniques. The resultant trade studies focused on applying high-temperature superconducting materials to the launch motor magnets and windings and resulted in a system architecture based on advanced superconducting materials and energy storage and recovery processes. Silicon Carbide Solid State Power System - Expert led a team tasked to test and evaluate a high power solid-state power conversion system based on next-generation silicon carbide semiconductor materials. He managed the development of the test program and helped define the test facility requirements which included the use of high voltage (13.8 kV) switchgear and associated electrical equipment. Rotary Electromagnetic Launch System - Expert led a team of scientists and engineers performing modeling and simulation analysis for a revolutionary high-performance permanent magnet motor designed for submarine applications. This work involved finite element analysis of the structural and electromechanical responses and provided a prediction of anticipated output performance prior to testing. Emitter Turn Off Thyristor (ETO) - Expert directed the test and evaluation of an advanced solid-state power electronics switch to assess the operating characteristics and performance envelope of the device. He directed a team of university, industry, and government technical experts to test and evaluate and analyze the ETO performance under real-world operating conditions and identify critical operating characteristics such as EMI emissions and switching frequency.
