Expert has managed all elements of the supply chain, including R&D, material planning, purchasing, logistics, traffic, and distribution for major corporations. His proactive consulting practice embodies both the purchasing and sales and marketing sides of the supply chain. For more than 20 years, he has managed multi-location purchasing councils including National Can, Kraft, and Colgate-Palmolive. He is familiar with providing strategic sourcing methodology, identifying high potential sourcing groups, organizing multi-division teams, and supporting analysis and negotiation.
Expert has worked proactively in new vendor identification, supplier selection, and supplier relationship management on a global scale. He developed a "partnership" matrix model to diagnose and manage relationships. He understands the importance of working through the process of review, qualification, certification, and strategic fit analysis when selecting suppliers. Expert can help develop sourcing strategies to guide appropriate supplier selection.
As global Chief Purchasing Officer and as a supply chain consultant, he has a track record of managing the "total cost" of supply. He notes that cost reduction is produced by understanding and managing cost drivers, by selection of best suppliers, by management of productive ongoing supplier relationships, and by strong negotiation skills involving knowing what to negotiate as well as how to negotiate.
Expert has managed a diverse array of corporate functions including Purchasing, Logistics, Traffic, R&D, Facilities, Private Fleet, Operating Business Units (Profit Centers) and other corporate functions. In a totally different context, he has led purchasing councils consisting of purchasing executives of internal divisions and business units, international subsidiaries, and others with varying individual perspectives and priorities. Expert notes that understanding of culture, of motivation, and of individual business objectives is key to being an effective cross-functional manager.
Retained Consultant and Mentor to VP Purchasing and Supply - retained by and reporting to the Chairman of a mid-size chemical industry company. 2 year assignment produced demonstrable changes in supply management strategy and significant cost reductions. 18 month assignment as "Portable Executive" managing a global strategic sourcing initiative, conducting training in US, Europe and Asia; Mentoring newly appointed head of Global Sourcing and SupplyDeveloped a portfolio of global supply and supply chain strategy workshops and a toolbox of processes and templates. Several European based multinational companies have engaged him in a series of professional development and supply chain workshops including:

Led a team in creation of a new corporate procurement department for a Fortune 100 company, in which he worked on strategy, organization, and policies. Developed and delivered training in strategic procurement process and tools. Led negotiation teams to apply the process and produce cost savings in a $600MM plus category of purchased goods and services. Served as Expert Panel Consultant to review global supply chain and product strategies for a multinational CPG - Note: In this and the above examples, his policy is to "Tell them what they NEED to hear, not what they WANT to hear".
Following his corporate career, Expert maintained a 2 decade journey doing business as Employer. He provided strategy-based consulting services and professional development training to multinational clients. His global experience spans 38 countries, European, Asian and American consulting clients and numerous Conference & University presentations and published articles.

Expert received his B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Illinois and his MBA in Production Management from Indiana University. Expert is a resident of the Governors Club community where he Chairs the Club Speaker Series.
