Personal Injury, Occupational Health and the Psychological Consequences of Work-related Issues
ID: 728157
United Kingdom
The work with clients who presented symptoms associated with depression and anxiety, occasionally uncovered a work history of stress related to bullying, harassment and similar pressures. Her work as an expert witness evolved from her private practice, as a result of requests from Solicitors for Reports upon the clients with whom she had been offering therapeutic interventions. Expert Witness work is now the focus of her professional development. Most of her Expert Witness work is currently in the field of personal injury.
She began her career in education, as a teacher and then University lecturer, later gaining a Ph.D. and qualifying as both a Chartered Occupational Psychologist and a Chartered Counselling Psychologist. As a NATFHE branch officer, she was involved in a number of internal disciplinary hearings against colleagues, frequently facing very antagonistic questioning on such matters as sexual harassment, bullying, sexual and racial discrimination, work-related stress and misconduct. As a Union Officer, she has participated in a number of Industrial Tribunal cases, and this experience has included several cases of racial discrimination, sexual discrimination, unfair dismissal and non-compliance with contractual employment terms. In these cases, she has sometimes faced detailed hostile questioning from Solicitors or Barristers on the basis of Reports, on the psychological consequences to the employee, which she has submitted to the Tribunals.
As a Chartered Counselling Psychologist, she has assisted clients with a wide variety of personal issues, for the last 20 years. These include work-related stress, post-traumatic stress, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, bullying and harassment at work, sexual assault, phobias, parenting problems, persecutory delusions, obsessive-compulsive disorder and some forms of addiction. A large part of her work is with clients suffering from anxiety and depression.
She provided a counelling psychology intervention to a rugby team, whose members witnessed one of their members killed on a rugby field. She counselled a mwoman who was crushed by a loose car on a ferry, which led to post-traumatic stress. She helped a man involved in a car accident, whose trauma led to depression and social dysfunction. She has assisted innumerable rape and sexual assault victims. She has helped many clients overcome post-traumatic stress as a result of speed-boat accidents, traffic accidents, or occupational accidents and assaults.
