After graduating from Texas A&M Galveston in 1996 with a B.S. in Maritime Systems Engineering, Expert was employed with Waller Marine, a marine consulting firm providing structural and naval architectural support to the offshore and marine transportation industries. Expert then moved to Reading & Bates Drilling Company (Transocean), where he performed various structural and project engineering duties, including general rig modifications, upgrades, and mobilizations which often required travel to SE Asia, Brazil, India and West Africa. Expert was also assigned to an Operations Technical Field Support Group supporting numerous ultra-deep water drilling units in the Gulf of Mexico and Eastern Canada. Immediately before joining Atwood in 2005, he was employed with Technip Offshore where he led various project disciplines including deep water anchor system design. Expert then joined Atwood, and was assigned to the Engineering group, assisting with daily support functions as well as several projects, including a new-build semisubmersible program in Singapore. In April of 2012, Expert joined Integrated Drilling Equipment, a turn-key rig manufacturer, where he was tasked to develop an offshore group. During that period, IDE completed a public offering and dramatically expanded its presence in the offshore space including the award of four modular offshore platform rigs for PEMEX (US$350MM+). In May of 2013, Expert moved to ExxonMobil to help with the planning of a new modular rig intended for extended reach drilling off Sakhalin Island, Russia. He then moved to Transocean, assisting with arctic upgrade feasibility studies. Expert was most recently with KBR-GVA developing and marketing new rig concepts and engineering services.
Expert is currently an independent industry technical consultant for litigation, private equity diligence, market analysis, etc.
