Expert has extensive experience with the specification and application of nickel and stainless alloys in the high temperature areas of gas (both aero and industrial/marine) and steam turbines including compressors, combustion, and turbine components. He has worked closely with designers, recommending specific materials based on strength and corrosion properties. As a leading authority on the effects of exposure on the properties and microstructure of nickel alloys, particularly alloys X-750, 718, 625, 617, and 800, he has assisted in a variety of failure investigations. He has written numerous papers on the use of low-expansion alloys. His background in welding and fabrication enables him to give guidance in production and repair practices. He can answer complex questions regarding controlled expansion and nimonic alloys.

Expert has been involved in the welding of nickel and stainless alloys for over 45 years and has been a member of the ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Committee, Section IX and is currently on three AWS welding committees and the Chairman of the Welding of Nickel Alloys Committee. He has been the chairman of the Welding Research Council Subcommittee on "Welding of Stainless Steel and Nickel Alloys" since 2001. His specialties include dissimilar metal welding, the welding effect on nickel alloy corrosion resistance, and the heat treating of welds.

Expert has extensive knowledge of the mechanical and physical properties of nickel and stainless alloys and the effect of temperature on these properties. He has been an active member of the ASM Heat Resistant Materials Properties Committee for many years and was Chairman of the committee's first international conference on heat resistant materials held in 1991.

A significant portion of Expert's career has involved heat treating including specifying fixturing materials and recommending the proper heat treatments to be used on nickel and stainless alloys. He has authored numerous articles including several ASM Handbook chapters on the heat treating of nickel alloys.

Expert has been involved with the mechanics and consequences of age hardening of nickel alloys for many years. He has lectured on the properties and selection of the age-hardenable materials Inconel 718 and X-750, Incoloys 903/909 and Monel K-500.

Expert has specialized in the properties and selection of low-expansion alloys including the glass sealing alloys. He has been involved in the specifications and analysis of problems associated with glass sealing alloys.

The welding of heat resistant alloys, both solid solution and age-hardenable alloys, has been a specialty of Expert's for many years. He is Chairman of the Nickel Alloy Subcommittee of the AWS G2 Committee on Joining Metals and Alloys. He has authored numerous papers on the welding of heat-resistant alloys.

Expert has been involved with superalloys for over 40 years. He has advised engineers and designers in all of the major engine and airframe companies on the properties, fabrication techniques, and selection of these materials. He is a recognized expert on the metallurgy of superalloys and has authored numerous papers related to superalloys.

Expert conducted a failure analysis of a stainless steel vessel weld crack. He evaluated the metallurgy and microstructure and recommended a solution. He evaluated a needed improvement in a piece of equipment in a plastics manufacturing plant, suggested the proper alloy for overcoming the problem. Expert evaluated a high alloy process vessel that had cracked during service. He recommended a repair and post-weld procedure. He provided data and guidance to solve a high-temperature oxide scaling problem in a paint drying facility in a plant that made strip metal for making beverage cans. Expert provided data and guidance to a manufacturing plant that was having difficulty with nickel strip in the production of sensors.
