At Cessna, Expert designed the pressure cabin, empennage, and main spar carry through for the 441 Conquest and 650 Citation 2. His other engineering responsibilities included stress measurement (strain gauges, brittle coatings), solids modeling (NASTRAN), and FAA certification report authoring.

Power user in SolidWorks. Expert designed over $40M in custom engineered incinerators, heat exchangers, atomizers, gear boxes, and other heavy equipment for Monsanto, Degussa, Microsource, Proctor and Gamble, other Fortune 500 companies, and small to medium sized companies. His design responsibilities included FEA and CFD modeling for stress, vibration, heat transfer, gas dynamics, interial loads, and mode of failure.

Expert is factory trained in Finite Element modeling at Cosmos, ADINA, COMSOL, and Stardyne, and in Finite Difference gas modeling at FLUENT, Blue Ridge Numerics, and ADINA. He designed projects from heavy equipment through microscopic electronics. He is particularly equipped for interdisciplinarity projects including chemical, mechanical, control, thermal, fluid, and economic elements.

Expert has extensive manufacturing background in custom engineered equipment using both traditional hand drafting and CAD, as well as modern manufacturing methods where parasolids files are generated in the CAD environment (ProE, SolidWorks, Autocad), and exported to a tool pass coder that then drives the end manufacturing process, such as laser cutting, EDM, multi axis milling, 3D printing, and automated welding.

See Computer Aided Engineering, Computer Aided Manufactring, Aircraft Design Fluid Mechanics, and Machine Design.

Expert is an expert in gas and liquids design using traditional theory and computer modeling. His past projects include reactor vessels, suspended powder transport, steam mixers, and design support of aircraft, gearbox, electronics, and incinerator fluids performance. He holds MS degree in fluids from the University of Colorado.

Expert has thirty years of experience designing heavy equipment (Ingersoll-Rand, Hosokawa), aircraft structures (Cessna), incinerators (Coen), and numerous custom engineered projects (PG&E’s carbonate fuel cell incinerator). His design responsibilities extend from initial process design and numerical modeling, through machine concept, prototyping, final design, control systems, and field startup.

Expert is currently redesigning existing paper drying equipment ($5T world wide) by partnering with equipment manufacturers, receiving DOE grants, and partnering with end users. His marketing responsibilities include print media, web media, industry trade show presentations, and technical article publishing.

Expert is particularly suited to products with multiple technical disciplines: chemical, mechanical, thermal, vibration, fluid, control, and / or machine design.

SELF EXCITED VIBRATION - Analyzed a 200HP gearbox that vibrated violently and unpredictably. The root cause was modal coupling, where a shaft's bending and torsion modes were separated by only 10 Hz, allowing shaft motion to couple with gearbox power flow. ACOUSTIC ISOLATION - Isolated a yttrium crystal circuit from angstrom sized deflections during 7G shock events. Circuit treatment involved softening the acoustic wave path into the circuit. All vibration modes were invisible, but diagnosable by their frequency signature.GAS MODELING - Tripled the retention time of a reactor vessel by modeling in CFD. The untreated vessel had strong recirculation paths that occupied most of the process space. The treated vessel used swirl flows to shrink recirculation.ELASTIC DEFLECTIONS - Diagnosed the driving mechanism behind 3/2 order propellor whirl. The engine case deflected because the shear center was located far from piston forces. The motor case was an open section governed by warping torsion. COGENERATION BURNER FLAMEOUT - Diagnosed burner failure at a cogeneration facility. An improperly designed plenum allowed wall attachment of a high velocity jet, flooding and starving an over and under burner set. After diagnosis, the burner was cured with perforated plates.
