In expert’s tenure as a consultant, he has undertaken the analysis of competitors to ensure that his client has a better understanding of how to succeed in a specific market segment. He has also not hesitated to recommend to a client thinking about entering a new market that the competitors have very strong positions and the chances for success are minimal. Much of his work has been done by addressing strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT).
Undertaking competitive intelligence is very important for many of expert’s clients to enable them to gain a better understanding of their image in the marketplace and provide them with opportunities to further grow their business. Much of his effort centers around contacting potential or current customers to assess how well clients are doing and what they need to do to provide better service. As part of this approach, he also will ask about the competition to see how effective they are in providing products and services. All of this work is done without revealing the identity of his client.
He has spent 33 years in the industrial chemical industry dealing with specialty chemicals, surfactants, coatings, cosmetics, cleaners and lubricants. He has a good understanding of how the industrial chemical industry operates from both a business and technical standpoint. He links these two areas when working with his clients.
Metalworking is an area where he has a high level of expertise particularly regarding the types of fluids used in these processes. He is a Certified Metalworking Fluid Specialist and has spent over 30 years in the field. Expert’s time is spent helping clients develop, evaluate and operate metalworking fluids. Much of this effort involves troubleshooting metalworking fluid problems. He is also an instructor who helps to teach a course on metalworking fluids for the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE).
Expert is an organic chemist by training and is well versed in many of the processes used to manufacture organic chemicals for surfactant and lubricant applications. This would include amidation, esterification, ethoxylation, manufacture of phosphate esters, sulfurization and sulfonation.
He has been consulting for a leading supplier of metalworking fluids for the past 20 years. Included has been identification and evaluation of new raw materials, formulation support, product testing, regulatory assistance and product troubleshooting. He has conducted market intelligence reports for leading multinational chemical companies for the past 20 years. Studies have been conducted in lubrication, coatings, inks, pigments and rubber chemicals.He has edited and written Safety Data Sheets for at least four clients over the past 20 years.He has conducted lab work to evaluate one client's corrosion inhibitor versus competitive materials in lubricant formulations. He has developed a biobased metalworking fluid for a client involved in marketing these products. The project led to the preparation of 2 patents.
