Expert received an MA in research methodology from the University of Chicago, as well as an M. Phil. and a Ph.D. in experimental social psychology from Columbia University. He has more than 20 years of consulting experience designing and analyzing assessments for large corporations, and has worked as a researcher or faculty member at IBM, the University of Chicago, Yale, and the University of Michigan Business School. He lectures nationally on communication, survey design, and linkage analysis, and has written articles for scientific publications such as The Journal of Experimental Psychology, Behavioral Research Methods, The Journal of Personality & Social Psychology, and Harvard Business Review. (His first HBR article was on the design of assessments in the workplace, and his second was on web-based surveys.) Practical experience includes assessment services for employees at companies such as GM, International Truck and Engine Corporation, EDS, Sprint, Blue Cross-Blue Shield, Sears, Disney, and numerous other Fortune 500 companies. He is the author of several patented employee assessments, and has been an expert resource for the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal (where his company was recently featured). He has testified as an expert witness for Congress on employee motivation and performance assessment, and has assisted numerous legal firms with statistical analysis of very large datasets as well as litigation involving surveys and the impact of the corporate culture on performance. He is currently president of EMPA, a company that designs customized assessments, and (in conjunction with the University of Michigan) conducts the National Benchmark Study® that annually sets normative BenchmarksSM and measures the causal linkage between employee motivation and objective performance metrics.

Expert Witness Experience
Served as the sole expert witness specializing in organizational psychology and, in that capacity, analyzed 4 million rows of production data from large assembly line in a case where 32 million dollars was at stake; my statistical analysis provided the only empirical evidence exonerating our side of liability. The case settled successfully out of court.
Other Relevant Experience
Testified to congress on the linkage between working conditions, employee motivation, and defect rate. I have also published several Harvard Business Review articles on workplace assessments, and have written several patents for inventions pertaining to assessments in the workplace.
