Insurance Industry Claims and Underwriting: Property and Casualty; Life and Health
ID: 730690
Colorado, USA
In addition to his practical experience, Expert was the director of insurance education at the college level. His curriculum included the courses required to prepare for the Expert/FC professional designation
In addition to his specific life insurance experience, Expert been involved in many cases involving standard of care issues of various aspects of the insurance industry in general. He would estimate that he has had more than 100 assignments, of which at least 60 to 70% have involved standard-of-care issues and/or the duties of a professional insurance producer.
When working for a brokerage, Expert was responsible for sales, marketing and risk acceptance (underwriting) on behalf of the companies his brokerage represented. His successful risk selection over the years was likely the largest single factor contributing to the success of the agency. His underwriting responsibilities were closely followed by supervision of our claims people and the claims settlement process. The balance of my duties dealt with the management of a regional property and casualty general agency with special attention to contract issues, company- agency disputes, producer issues, insurance industry procedures and standards, coverage consultation, sales management, and marketing.
Aside from underwriting duties, as the agency grew, Expert spent time on agency company relations and supervision of our production team. Keeping their agents and their agency out of trouble was his special project. His duties included agent and agency responsibility, avoiding E&O claims, ethics, and standards and practices of agents and insurers. As evidence of his attention to these issues, no agent or the agency was ever involved in a civil suit or a reprimand from any regulatory agency.
