Work in these areas has focussed on finding genetic basis of bacterial virulence and then using this information to identify novel drug targets or candidate vaccine antigens. In recent years Expert’s research interests have shifted towards systems biology of infectious diseases where Expert’s group has made notable achievements, for instance, constructing the first in silico model of the pathogen, Mycobacterium tuberculosis. He has already recently entered the area of bionanotechnology where his work has focussed on the development of carbon nanotubes for biomedical application. Recent successes include, for instance, the construction of a system for cancer drug delivery to cells. Expert is also a popular science writer who writes on a wide range of subjects for the media, including genetics, synthetic biology and evolution.
