He attended his first Hazard Study in 1977, the project, a chlorinated solvent plant for ICI UK, was an outstanding success, on time and to budget with no incidents. After 10 years as a C/E design commissioning & maintenance Engineer he became a Hazard Study Leader in ICI's Central Engineering Section. He lead Hazard Studies on a wide range of chemical, petrochemical and food plants, 1988 to 2001.He assisted in revising ICI Hazard Study procedure. He ran ICI Hazard Study Leader's training course for 10 years including N America. Began working independently in 2001 and has worked mainly in the far east on petrochemical plants, platforms and chemical plants.

He is a world expert on leading Hazops and SIL studiesChemical and Petrochemical plants Michigan, Sao Paulo, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, China, Korea and Japan.
