Fine Particle Processing, Dispersion Engineering, Acoustic Separation Methods

ID: 107846
Ohio, USA
Expert has done extensive research in the behavior (colloidal and macroscopic scale) of particulate materials. This has ranged from studies of interparticle forces to stability of dispersions. The role of interfacial chemistry in materials processing, especially ceramic powders, has been a main research interest.
Expert has used acoustic fields to sort dispersed phases (particles, droplets, bubbles) on the basis of size, density, or hardness. He has invented a number of methods that use combined flow and acoustic fields to fractionate particles from 0.1 mm to 1 mm.
A significant portion of Expert's work involves the use of hydrodynamic shear to separate and distribute clusters of fine particles into a liquid medium. He has investigated the role of interfacial chemistry, particle and agglomeration morphology, geometry and the intensity of the flow field on the mechanisms and kinetics of the dispersion process.
