Request Expert

Evaporative Emissions Consulting, Inc., was formed in 2009 after Expert's retirement from General Motors R&D Center with 30 years of experience in fuels and fuel vapor emission control research and development. Expert's firm provides engineering and consulting services in the area of evaporative fuel vapor emission control. Expert has extensive experience in finding solutions to difficult evaporative emission control problems which involved developing mathematical models to predict evaporative (diurnal, hot-soak, running loss, and refueling) fuel vapor generation from fuel tanks, fuel vapor storage in activated carbon canister, canister purging, vapor redistribution, canister back-purge, and permeation losses. Another unique modeling skill of Expert is the complex mathematical prediction of vapor pressures and emissions from gasolines containing various oxygenates (ethanol, methanol, butanol, MTBE, ETBE, etc.).
Skills that nobody else in the industry possess except Expert:
1. Complex non-ideal solution (ethanol/gasoline) evaporative and refueling vapor generation model
2. Vapor generation models for predicting:
a. Diurnal and running loss vapor generation as a function of ethanol concentration, fuel vapor pressure,
ambient temperature, and altitude
b. Refueling vapor generation as a function tank fuel RVP, dispensed fuel RVP, tank temperature, dispensed
fuel temperature, air entrainment (liquid seal vs. mechanical seal, and fill type (bottom fill vs. top fill)
3. Canister models based on activated carbon adsorption isotherm and mass/energy balance for predicting:
a. Canister loading (adsorption) breakthrough or bleed emissions
b. Canister purging (desorption) as a function of purge air volume and temperature
c. Canister back-purge (passive purge), especially in multiple diurnals
d. Vapor redistribution during soaks and its effect on bleed emissions
e. EPA working capacity
f. Slow loading diurnal vapor storage capacity (for EPA and CARB 3-day diurnals)
g. Rapid loading refuel vapor storage capacity (EPA ORVR test)

Just retired from GM R&D Center and started a consulting company called Evaporative Emissions Consulting, Inc.
