New Jersey, USA
The expert has over 35 years in industrial polymer product development for the automotive, electrical / electronics, consumer, industrial and specialty markets in the plastics, fiber, extruded shape and film forms. He has instituted several product development systems at his previous employer that resulted in faster speed to market and a higher success rate for commercialization. His main expertise is in engineering and high performance polymers. He has done extensive development in polymer stabilization, blends, impact modification, and new polymer development. He has brought several polymer products to market that sold over 1 million pounds.
The expert has over 35 years in plastic product development to achieve a given property profile in a specified application. He has experience with polyphenylene sulfide (most experienced), acetals, nylons, polyesters, liquid crystal, and polyolefins. He is a director for a course on engineering plastics product development presented in the US and the Netherlands (given 10 times). His areas of expertise include stabilization, blends, impact modification, new polymers and customization of plastics properties. He is very expert in the additives used to modify plastic properties. He has many successful commercial products.
The expert has spent 35 years working in the area of polymer chemistry. In that time he has developed many synthetic routes for the chemical modification of various polymers including acetal and polyphenylene sulfide. He also is familiar with many new polymers that were developed by industry and was the project leader for several joint ventures on these new polymers. He is currently working with a major University and has gained significant insight into new trends in polymer chemistry as a result. Many of his products have been successfully commercialized by industry.
The expert has spent most of his career in aiding customers in the correct selection of polymers for an application. He is a director for a course on engineering thermoplastics that has several teaching sessions on the correct process for the selection of thermoplastic materials for an application. He has extensive hands on experience in dealing with application development and selection for a major plastics producer.
He has written over 20 US patents for clients in fields that cover the chemical and mechanical arts. He has specific expertise in the polymer art field. He wrote and prosecuted these applications and also lent his scientific expertise to clarify expermental and practical issues within these inventions. He has given a three day course in Engineering Thermoplastics in the US and the Netherlands over 10 times. This course involved discussion of specific customer application, design and processing issues for a wide variety of engineering plastics. Many students have cited this aspect of the course positively in their evaluations. He has been an in-house consultant at his former employer, a major plastics resin manufacturer. His job duties concerned solving specific customer issues with regards to formulation, product development and processing. He had a success rate of approximately 90% in solving customer issues. He has consulted independently 9 times with a major plastics manufacturer on formulation, patent and processing, and application issues. These involved in depth discussions with marketing, technical, legal and business functions. He was able to draw on his experience in the industry to suggest solutions to various processing problems including changes to the polymerization process / manufacture that allowed for the production of a branched polymer that had lower synthesis costs for the polymer manufacturer and was easier to process for the customer.
