Electromagnetic Interference, Electromagnetic Compatibility, and Electrostatic Discharge

ID: 107865
Alabama, USA
HEMP. Expert did a year-long research project, which hardened the "standard" US Navy minicomputer against EMP effects. Expert worked together in a group that specialized in HEMP effects.
EMI MEASUREMENTS; FCC STANDARDS. Expert has designed, tested, and qualified numerous systems to stringent government EMI regulations (TEMPEST, MIL-STD-461, FCC IEC). He has designed and tested products to meet European Community EMI standards (IEC 801, CISPR 11/22, IEC 1000-4), and FDA medical standards. He has also conducted magnetic field and electromagnetic field site surveys.
ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE; ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE CONTROL; STATIC ELECTRICITY. Expert has designed and tested systems to IEC 1000-4-2 (formerly IEC 801.2) immunity standards. He has isolated and corrected ESD problems with electronic systems in the field. He has developed in-house ESD guidelines and standards for clients.
RADIO FREQUENCY INTERFERENCE; MANMADE RFI; NATURAL RFI; RADAR INTERFERENCE; TELEVISION INTERFERENCE. Expert has solved numerous RFI problems between computer systems and VHF and UHF radio communications systems. This includes both emissions (computers jamming radios) and susceptibility (radios jamming computers). He has designed and tested systems to meet IEC 1000-4-3 (formerly IEC 801.3) RF immunity standards. He has conducted RF site surveys and has designed shielded rooms for RFI control.
POWER QUALITY; ELECTRONIC TRANSIENTS; HUM; GROUNDING; LINE FILTERING. Expert has consulted on power quality problems, including transients, hum, high-frequency interference, voltage sag and surge, magnetic fields, lightning, and grounding. He has conducted research on magnetic field effects on video displays and has done power line surveys and magnetic field surveys. He has held a Master Electrician's license and is familiar with the National Electrical Code as it applies to electronic systems. He has supported EPRI efforts on Power Quality.
ELECTROMAGNETIC PULSE; NUCLEAR EMP; SYSTEM GENERATED EMP; SOURCE REGION EMP. Expert has designed electronic equipment to meet nuclear EMP requirements. He has conducted classified research and advised clients of design techniques needed to meet EMP requirements.
TEMPEST; COMPROMISING EMANATIONS. Expert has designed and installed equipment to stringent TEMPEST requirements. He has advised clients on design techniques needed to meet TEMPEST requirements.
LIGHTNING. Expert has advised architects on lightning protection for electronic systems. His recent experience includes designing protection for "911" emergency systems, which involves the integration of VHF and UHF radio, computer, telephone, and emergency power systems.
Expert offers training seminars on electromagnetic compatibility including Design for EMC, Systems Grounding and Shielding, along with other customized classes.
Expert provides EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) troubleshooting at both the design and systems levels. Problems include radiated and conducted emissions, immunity, RFI, ESD, and power disturbances.
Expert provides design reviews to prevent electromagnetic interference problems. These cover components, printed circuit boards, power supplies, cables and connectors, grounding, and mechanical packaging (shielding.)
