Following three degrees in geology and a 99 percentile GRE score in geology, he established the geology degree undergraduate program at the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1981. In his >40-year teaching career he has taught introductory physical and historical geology, hydrogeology, stratigraphy, sedimentology, and a variety of geomorphology and physical geography courses. In his research he has worked in Africa and Asia on a variety of geomorphology and resource evaluation projects. His consulting has been varied but is dominated by forensic railroad accident reconstructions. He is a specialist in slope-failure mass movements and other natural hazards.
