COMPUTER VIRUS. ExpertLeiss (pronounced lyce), a
computer scientist, is an authority in the increasingly
important field of data security. He has published two
books related to data security and teaches a graduate
level course on this subject. He also contributed the
article on data security to the Encyclopedia of Science
and Technology and another article on computer
viruses to its 1989 Update Yearbook.
SUPERCOMPUTER; PARALLEL COMPUTER
PROCESSING. ExpertLeiss' second major field is vector
and parallel computing with special emphasis on
supercomputers and the application of
high-performance computers to seismic data
processing. A strong undercurrent of his academic
efforts in this area is to improve computing efficiency,
especially for problems with huge input/output data
sets. Related to this are his studies of programming
environments and software tools for high-performance
computing systems. ExpertLeiss is also interested in
technology assessment and the feasibility of using
parallel systems (MIMD and SIMD) for production
processing.
