His work is applied mainly to Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), including Environmental Statement review and all aspects of EIA and scoping studies in a range of environments, mainly tropical coastal areas.
Prof Expert has a wealth of training experience at all levels and has organised, designed and delivered short courses on EIA, coastal resources management and coral reef ecology and marine microbial ecology. Some examples include a training workshop: Microbial Ecology Methods in Marine Ecosystems, Institute for Marine Sciences, Zanzibar, Tanzania (2008) and the Pauley Programme Summer School, Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology, Oahu, Hawaii (2007). He has been Director of two MSc programmes at Employer and had senior responsibility for all research programmes at the University of the South Pacific (2012-2015).
2009 - Coastal resources survey and marine habitat mapping in St Lucia.
