COLLOID AND INTERFACE CHEMISTRY; COLLOIDAL DISPERSION; PARTICLE DISPERSION; PARTICLE SUSPENSION; SURFACE CHEMISTRY; SURFACE TENSION; SURFACTANT. Expert obtained his Ph.D. in Colloid Science in one of the world's foremost laboratories. Since that time, he has worked exclusively in researching colloid and surface chemical aspects of a number of technologies. This has resulted in more than 50 scientific publications. He has had wide experience in the preparation and characterization of colloidal systems usually in the presence of surfactants and polymers.
NEWSPRINT PAPER DE-INKING . Flotation de-inking of newsprint is an important part of Expert's current research program. His interests involve both the development of new flotation technology and the investigating its fundamental aspects. Expert is familiar with common soap and soap compounds, paper recycling, reclaimed fiber and pulp and paper fiber, recycled pulp and paper fiber, and waste paper recycling.
FLOCCULATION; FLOCCULATION AGENT. Expert spent seven years in the 1980s researching fines retention on newsprint paper machines. This work resulted in patents being issued and fundamental papers being published. Recently, he has started to work in this area again with emphasis on novel polymer synthesis and flocculation mechanisms. He is knowledgeable of paper and wet-end chemistry, polyelectrolytes, polymer flocculents, and wet-end paper operations.
HYDROCOLLOID; HYDROGEL; HYDROPHILIC POLYMER; LATEX MATERIAL; POLYMER GEL. Expert invented colloidal hydrogels based upon poly(N-ispropylacrylamide). This on-going work has given him much experience in the characterization of gels.
PULP WASHING; BROWNSTOCK WASHING. Expert and his team has pioneered the use of water soluble polymers to improve displacement washing on brownstock washers. More recently his interests have expanded to bleach plant washers.
