Expert has 20+ years expereince in forensic casework including speaker identification using auditory, acoustic and text analysis techniques; transcription (in particular, the transcription of poor quality recordings); enhancement of poor quality recordings; examination of tape recordings to determine whether or not the tape has been edited or otherwise interfered with; linguistic profiling; Traveller dialect (UK and Ireland); black box? and other disaster circumstances analysis; author attribution; disguised voice analysis; text analysis in suspected cases of "verballing", forgery, scripting, coercion etc; conversation / discourse analysis to determine purpose, direction and control; examination of conversation or text for coded references; linguistic interpretation of meaning; foreign language analysis using interpreters; response elicitation techniques (e.g. cognitive interviewing); response assessment (including assessment of non-native speaker responses); voice line ups; trademark disputes. She has an MA in scientific method and a PhD in the meaning/sound interface of language is one of the very few practitioners with experience in both acoustics and language analysis, she maintains a strong programme of research, publications and conference presentation, which ensures that Employer remains at the forefront of thinking and research on both the technical, laboratory side and on the forensic, public side, whether within Civil Law, Intelligence or the Criminal Justice System.

Expert has been carrying out forensic speaker comparison tasks since 1990. She is a member
of the International Association for Forensic Phonetics and Acoustics and as such is bound by their Code of Practice. She uses a combined auditory and acoustic procedure; these methods take account of recent Appeal Court Rulings relating to forensic voice analysis including Northern Ireland Court of Appeal R – v – Dougherty [2002] and more recently, EWCA, R – v – Flynn and St John [2008].
