In his other major administrative role as Senior Associate Dean, he is in charge of safety, quality, risk management, medicolegal management and a 40MM budget for the Employer Health System.
His research into lethal injection led to the recent national debate on its application and he was quoted by the Supreme Court. His major research thrusts in the past centered around pharmacoeconomics and OR management. He has been a professor of management at both Duke and Miami's schools of business and continues to teach on incentive systems, negotiations, and internet business models in medicine. He was a Fuqua Scholar (valedictorian) of Duke's Executive MBA class of 1999. While at Duke, he was noted for his contributions to management science of OR throughput and efficiency, optimization of staffing models, and team formation.

He ran numerous seminars on this topic over his early career. The most unique course is a 4 week mini-MBA developed for fourth year medical students in 2005. The second is a patient safety seminar given for a day to all 275 new housestaff annually at the Jackson Memorial Hospital, also developed at that time. |
