Expert has participated in the redesign of the Kettering campus network based on Bay Network's ATM switches and Ethernet switches. He has organized, in conjunction with CISCO, various seminars at Kettering dealing with LAN-WAN interconnection issues. He has participated in the design of the industrial network Profibus (a German standard) that follows a client-server architecture. Expert has taught a course on computer network development for over 12 years where LAN-WAN interconnection is emphasized.
Expert is Chair of the Course Development Team of the Distance Learning project at Kettering. He has evaluated several distance learning approaches and products. He has designed and implemented an environment (LeProf) to develop online courses for both on-campus and distance learning. LeProf has a man-machine interface involving a high degree of visualization (using the Java graphical environment), interactivity, and simulation. He is the author of a book on multimedia systems.
His expertise is in the area of computer networks, particularly real-time protocols and factory communications; more recently he has been interested in the multiple applications of the Internet, the World Wide Web, client-server and multimedia systems.
Consulted with a telecommunications company to study the performance of computer network devices (bridges and routers).
