PNEUMATIC CONVEYING; CONVEYORS. Expert spent the majority of his career in bulk material handling, with the principal application in pneumatic conveying. He has gained much experience in the design and application of conveyors for bulk materials, specifically for delivery to or removal from storage vessels. Common applications include screw conveyors, bucket elevators, and associated equipment such as feeders and dust collectors. During the past 15 years of consulting, many applications required the combination or comparison of mechanical and pneumatic material handling systems. With worldwide recognition in the area of pneumatic conveying, Expert has written technical papers, provides a column for a trade magazine, teaches courses, evaluates systems, and does in-plant studies, all with the goal of improving the operation and understanding of pneumatic conveying systems.

FEEDERS. Expert's work in research for many years included the design, testing, and application of feeders including applications to control material discharge from bins, tanks, and silos into process equipment or conveying systems. He has solved problems associated with rotary, screw, twin screw, belt, and vibrating feeder applications as well as loss in weight and weighing feeder applications.

DUST FILTRATION. Expert has worked on the design, testing, improvement and application of dust collection equipment. This included the use of fabric filters on materials from power plants, cement plants, mining and minerals, as well as applications in the food, plastics, and environmental field. Expert's work included the designs of several filters with unique cleaning methods. He has consulted on issues to improve bag life, reduce material bleed-through, increase the filtration efficiency, and control pressure and/or air flow.

GAS-SOLID FILTRATION. Expert's experience in the gas-solid filtration field includes work on cyclones, bag filters, cartridge filters, and settling chambers.

FANS. Expert has worked for many years on the design, testing, and application of fans, ranging from small air moving units with low static pressures to large draft fans and higher pressure units. These fans are typically used for ventilation, dust collection, and material fluidization and/or transfer. Expert developed a family of fans with higher efficiency for medium pressure applications.

GAS-PARTICLE SYSTEM; TWO-PHASE FLOW. Pneumatic conveying depends on the proper mix of particles in a gas system. Expert's work has included the practical application of this technology as well as study in the theory of two phase flow. Over the past 24 years, Expert has presented many lectures, courses and papers in two phase flow as applied to pneumatic conveying.

PARTICLE FLUIDIZATION. Expert's experience involves the design, testing, improvement, and application of fluidization equipment. This includes the use of fluidization for air gravity conveyors, blending, improved material discharge from storage, and heat transfer. His experience includes the practical application of fluidization along with the theoretic study. He has published several papers and holds patents in this area.

POWDER HANDLING. A large portion of pneumatic conveying systems are dedicated to the handling of powders. As a result, Expert has developed a complete knowledge of powder handling, including the pre- and post-conveying stages. He has given lectures and published papers on this topic.

SOLID HANDLING. Expert's expertise in conveying systems enabled him to gain experience in solids handling. He has a complete knowledge of solid handling, including storage, withdrawal, and feed.


Expert assisted in developing a conveying system for a 3/8" diameter sponge iron at 700 degree C that has been running two years.Expert trouble shoots poorly operating systems and recommends corrections.
