Topic: Mobile Radar/Communication Power System
Situation: The client was pursuing a business-critical, strategic contract for a mobile radar application. A key performance parameter was an efficient and robust power system. The proposal development team needed expert power system technology skills to complement the radar and communication system design.
Benefits and Results: Expert developed an electric power source and conversion and distribution system for a high-power pulsed radar application. He also developed a hybrid power system that integrated vehicle power, auxiliary power units, external AC and DC sources, and an uninterruptible power supply to power communication equipment. All designs complied with performance requirements and applicable military standards.Topic: DO-178B Safety-Critical Application
Situation: The client was developing a aircraft tanker refueling system, but they lacked the systems/software engineering and specifically the DO-178B process development expertise. Program plans, process requirements and safety-critical architectures had to be defined. Motor control and BIT algorithms needed development.
Benefits and Results: Expert supported program planning, architecture definition, requirements development, and preliminary design of a refueling boom control system. He defined DO-178B development plans and verification processes. He also developed system and software requirements for operating system, input/output interfaces, built-in-test, and data management and control algorithms.Topic: Rotorcraft Flight Performance Evaluation
Situation: Simulation client needed a rotorcraft flight dynamics model to serve as the plant for a flight simulator. The model had to integrate seamlessly with the simulator hardware/software platform and had to be tailored to multiple aircraft.
Benefits and Results: Expert developed a flight dynamics simulation model to support control law development and system performance evaluation. The model supported user-defined aircraft characteristics, blade-element modeling, and customized dynamic flight equations.
Topic: Communication System Development
Situation: An extensive avionics system was under development. There were many different companies providing different digital data components that had to be integrated. Comprehensive system requirements could not be defined. The client needed to incrementally integrate performance models of components as they became available from vendors.
Benefits and Results: Expert outlined and defined aircraft data interface requirements. He developed a modular communication system model to evaluate performance and validate compliance to requirements. The model enabled individual components to be incrementally integrated as vendors supplied the data characteristics.Topic: Aircraft Diagnostic Solution
Situation: Logistics costs plagued the client’s aircraft component manufacturing. Failures were detected late in the supply chain. The client wanted a means to detect failures early in the manufacturing and servicing supply chains.
Benefits and Results: Expert developed a diagnostic system to unintrusively detect manufacturing failures and structural defects from the field. An integrated, portable hardware/software diagnostic system was development and replicated in logistical hubs.
